Ayurveda is the science of life or longevity. Ayu life. veda knowledge. It is the true natural healing system, which helps us to maintain our health, by living in harmony with nature. It treats the mind, intellect and the body as a whole, while allopathic medicine treats the illness. Ayurvedic treatment does not harm the body or the mind or cause any side effects.
Ayurveda is the term most commonly used for the ancient healthcare systems of the Indian subcontinent, and includes Ayurveda, Siddha, Unani and the healthcare system found in Sri Lanka.
Today we are struggling to find ways and means of developing Sustainable Environmental Systems and Organic food and try to fight against interference with nature by meddling with natural life forms and genes. Yet our ancient forefathers were aware of the harm of fighting against nature and they lived in a truely sustained environment.
The WHO had very ambitious plans for Health For All by year 2000 with the slogan HFA/2000. Probably one reason why we have not been able to achieve HFA/2000 could be because all efforts were concentrated on modern Healthcare systems and allopathic medicine.
WHO definition says Health is a state of complete physical, mental and social well-being and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity The only way to achieve this is by using our ancient healthcare systems.
Charaka, over 2000 years ago had said that it is more important to prevent the occurrence of disease than to look for a cure.
Sometime the Zero Option could be the best form of treatment. We have to heal ourselves. The Healer is within us. What we can do for ourselves, is the most effective. Sometimes we have to seek the assistance of another healer, but we ourselves have the grater and continuing responsibility to take care of our health. We have to live in harmony with nature, which can be called right living.
O Mother Earth,
Let thy bosom be free
from sickness and decay
May we through long life
Be active and vigilant
And serve thee with devotion
Atharva Veda 12:1:62
The sun is the eye of the universe.
It rises with bright sunshine
May we live to see it
For a hundred Autumns
Rik Veda 7:66:16
Let it be health and joy to us
Let nothing torment or injure us,
Let water be the universal medicine.:
Atharva Veda 6:57:3
